How to stop children from hitting other children?

• To attract our attention children do many things like arguing, shouting loudly, fidgeting, crying out loud, getting dirty, hitting other children etc.
• If what they are doing is not harmful for anyone, just ignoring it will evnentually stop them from doing it, as the attention they are seeking, they are not getting it through that method.
• However, if what they are doing is harmful like hitting other children, we have to take steps immediately - instead of scolding or getting angry with our child we can soothe the child who is being hit or divert our child’s attention to some thing else.
• If our child continues to hit other children even after our initiatil attempts to prevent, take him near to you, in a serious note tell child that we should not hit other children - take some time until it is accepted by you child. If possible, make him tell that. Also mutually decide upon a consequence he will face if it is repeated.
• If child repeats again, make sure it is followed by the consequence. Later on speak to the child and understand why it happened and ensure that he understood that hitting other children is not acceptable and that it has consequences.
